The best way to get Vintage tone is from a vintage parts. This is a sweet little 6" alnico speaker from the mid to late fifties. I know because I pulled the speaker myself from working vintage equipment. It looks like it was in a time capsule. A perfect exchange for that ceramic speaker in your fender champion 600. Played with a strat and a hand wired 5 watt 12ax7 / 6v6 guitar amp (also made from vintage parts!) Even the tubes are NOS! This is the tone of the golden years. |

Looking for something fun to do? Don't fret. Swing by the Futon Company, 129 Highland St., Worcester, for "20th Century Guitars," a show of guitars built, rescued and restored by Dan Hunt, guitarist with Jubilee Gardens, the Red Riders and other bands. The exhibition features one-of-a-kind guitars and vintage instruments, including a 1910 10-stringed Italian-style guitar once owned by the late Pete Clemente, the first professional guitar teacher in Central Massachusetts whose students included such local guitar aces as Cliff Goodwin, Rich Falco and Joe D'Angelo. The show runs through Jan. 31 during Futon Company hours, which are 11 am to 7 pm Wednesday through Saturday; and noon to 5 pm Sunday (best to call ahead on Sunday to check, (508) 831-7170). This video was taken at 30th street guitars, definitely one of the best guitar stores in New York, it is filled with amazing gear, in house custom guitars, boutique and vintage amps, and a staff that actually knows what they are talking about. Really nice environment and they even have a separate room if you wanted to really check out a piece of gear in private, like a nice tele and a vibrolux amp :) Gear used is an original 1962 Fender Bass VI into a late 50s Bassman (tweed of course) amp. As soon as i plugged it in i heard the sound these guitars were meant to make. This is the ultimate Bass VI set up and i got it on film! |

Vox AC4TV 10" profiled on Kemper Profiling Amplifier

This is my first profiling. I choose a little amp, one of my favorite for home playing (and preferred on my channel). A good or a lucky mic position can catch the best part of a tone, and avoid the worst: for example here the tone is quite big, but the natural tone of a such small cab is most mids and no low end. Anyway this profiling is astonishing, in my opinion it play better than the original one, or to be more precise catch the best part and KPA give me some margin to improve the tone more. Anyway first tone is almost exactly what the original tone, the second one has an improved gain (by Kemper Amp, the AC4 cranked more distort in a bad way). Recorded in 4W setting, tone 10, volume 7, mic Shure PG57 very angled (i put a photo at end of vid). Even so small, the profiling was LOUD so be careful if you plan to profile a big amp and you're in front of it. Guitar is a Bach Les Paul with Vintage Alnico PAF pickups. |
